IFS-Informed Therapist, EMDR Trained, Gottman Couple Therapy-Trained (Level 1 & 2)

Alesia Dundiak, MA

Much of what brings people to therapy is not one defining moment, but years of carrying what was too much to carry alone. I work from the belief that the nervous system can heal, that shame can be met with compassion, and that even deeply ingrained patterns can shift. My role is not to direct that process, but to create the conditions where it becomes possible.

Biography

Alesia Dundiak is a therapist completing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of New Jersey. Her clinical work is rooted in trauma-informed care, with a particular focus on complex trauma — from a single event to prolonged experiences of harm, neglect, or chronic stress that shape how a person relates to themselves and the world around them.

Alesia’s clinical experience spans the full continuum of care. She began her career in the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) department at Carrier Clinic, working with individuals facing severe and treatment-resistant mental health conditions. She later worked as an individual and group clinician at Footprints to Recovery, where she provided trauma-focused treatment within both Substance Use and Mental Health tracks. There she worked with clients carrying histories of complex trauma alongside substance use disorders, grief and loss, reentry after incarceration, relational difficulties, mood dysregulation, OCD, and suicidal ideation.

Her own experience of immigrating twice and navigating a significant career change has deepened her understanding of identity disruption, chronic stress, and the long-term effects of living through prolonged uncertainty — experiences that often intersect with complex trauma.

Alesia provides individual therapy, couples and family counseling, and group therapy. She is trained in Gottman Couple Therapy (Levels 1 & 2) and EMDR — both highly effective in trauma processing — and is an IFS-informed therapist who integrates these approaches with polyvagal theory, positive neuroplasticity, and self-compassion practices to support nervous system regulation and lasting healing.

Personal Statement

“Much of what brings people to therapy is not one defining moment, but years of carrying what was too much to carry alone. I work from the belief that the nervous system can heal, that shame can be met with compassion, and that even deeply ingrained patterns can shift. My role is not to direct that process, but to create the conditions where it becomes possible — a relationship that is safe, honest, and attuned to where each client actually is. Healing happens from the inside out, and I am here to support that process at every step.”

"It's that 'A-ha' moment, that look of recognition and relief, when I've finally crossed the "psychological" bridge and developed a connection with someone. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with children/adolescents struggling with numerous issues, such as ADHD, depression, and family conflict. I provide a supportive and nurturing environment and, in conjunction with positive reinforcement from parents, a change starts to happen..."

"Making the decision to engage in psychotherapy is an important step in healing from traumatic life events that leave emotional wounds long into adulthood. I work with individuals who wish to address the impact of traumatic stress from early childhood experiences of relational, emotional, physical and sexual abuse as well as domestic violence, sexual assault and other traumatic events that occur in adolescence and adulthood. My approach to working with individuals suffering from traumatic stress comes from an understanding that trauma is stored in the body..."

“I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma; helping them process difficult memories, manage overwhelming emotions, and rebuild a sense of safety and self-worth. My approach is genuine, collaborative, and evidence-based.  I use proven approaches tailoring therapy to each person’s unique needs.  I help clients navigate complex trauma, self-injurious behaviors, suicidality, anxiety, and depression; guiding them toward lasting healing and meaningful change. I believe that by creating a safe and non-judgmental environment, clients will feel supported and increase personal confidence allowing them to make positive decisions, meet their goals and set the foundation for future success.  I believe that bringing creative therapeutic techniques into sessions is very helpful especially when  individuals are having trouble verbalizing what they are feeling or experiencing. Bringing things like journaling, grounding, music and art into sessions increases a clients sense of safety and encourages them to be able to bring any topics into the counseling session."

Individuals reach out in times of stress or difficulty and I work hard to make the process of seeking help as smooth and welcoming as possible. My approach to counseling is client-centered & integrates various modalities through an Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) framework. I meet clients where they are at and work collaboratively with them to establish realistic goals for treatment, to identify and build on strengths, and to create a supportive environment where clients feel safe to connect to their emotions or express vulnerabilities..."

“I truly enjoy the way adolescent and young adult minds work - the questions they ask, the perspectives they take, and the ambition they can possess. As adults, we know that childhood and adolescence shape our future, but healthy, positive, and goal-oriented decisions need to be made. While the importance of this can not be overstated, we also know that life events, social interaction, and trauma can complicate this. I believe in building a strong therapeutic relationship and working together in an empathetic and non-judgemental setting to achieve goals, manage conflict and relationships, and build confidence.  My style incorporates a variety of therapeutic techniques and philosophies with a primary focus on Interpersonal Therapy with psychodynamic exploration to uncover our belief systems, motivations, and thought processes. Together, we will develop obtainable goals for therapy and work to maintain self-esteem, practice coping strategies, and bring awareness to our own challenges and obstacles that need to be tackled.”
